Mike D's Sonex 1692

Postby mike20sm » Sat May 09, 2015 1:42 am

I made the decision to attend the 60th Sonex Builders Workshop today. Anyone else planning on going?
Still haven't picked up my kit yet, but It's due to arrive sometime next week. It doesn't matter too much because I'm still getting my workshop in order, and I won't be ready to start building for a month or two I estimate.

I too will be attending. I decided to place my order for a Onex while there. Looking forward to getting the project off the ground.

Will be nice to meet you. My father is also coming to the workshop with me. He helped a friend just complete a Waiex so this will be really interesting for him, after the fact.

Kit Arrival!

Postby mike20sm » Tue May 12, 2015 12:57 am

The first Sonex smile Image

May 11th 2015 I went to Conway shipping center to pickup the kit. I was able to borrow the company van and it was able to accommodate the 10'x4' pallet with little room to spare. I think it was about 42 inches high which left just enough room for the forklift to get underneath and raise it into the van with no damage. The boxes all looked to be in good shape.

Will it Fit?

You are embarking on a great adventure that will be a life encapsulating endeavor, you will never be satisfied with what you have and will always want improvement. No home built is ever done as we afflicted always need to build. I am now turbo charging a perfectly good engine. And so press on and admit the affliction and get er done!!!

Thanks, Bill and Dana. I'll just take it one page at a time and try not to get overwhelmed like you advised and one day I'll get in the air 8-)

Hey Mike

I started Sonex 1517 four years ago this week, and am now in the infamous 90% done, 90% to go phase. Looking forward to watching your progress!

I will also be attending the workshop at the end of May. I ended up ordering a Onex kit that I plan to take home at the conclusion of the workshop. I originally wanted to purchase a Onex, then visited the factory and sat in the Sonex demo cockpit an thought I should buy a Sonex. Ultimately I decided that if I spent a couple of years building my own airplane I would probably never want to sell it so I decided to go with the Onex because I could always keep it stashed in the corner of my T-hangar even if I eventually bought a Cessna 172 or something like that later in life.
