Tony Messenger's cowling

I'm very much intrigued by the latest completion from Down Under, Tony Messenger:

How is that cowling made? Sheet metal? Nose bowl? It looks like it has a slight sharp angle between the bottom surface of the cowling and the forward fuselage bottom; does that affect drag? How was it made?
Is Tony here and can he comment?
It reminds me a bit of Pete Fernell's sheetmetal creation....
