Painting polished airplane

For those of you that polished then added trim paint, what steps did you take to clean and prep the area to paint? I was worried that some of the harsher washes and chemicals could/would creep under the tape!

Take a look at my other post on painting and polishing. I would recommend using PreKote. Tape off the area you don't want to paint. Use a high quality painters tape. Now spray apply the PreKote to the area you want to paint, and follow he directions (scrub with red scotch brite pad) reapply and scrub a second time, then rinse with water.

Once it is dry I would reapply the tape at the same line, apply the primer (recommend 2K epoxy) then paint, etc.
