Fuel shut off valve

Postby Sonex1517 » Thu May 01, 2014 9:09 pm

Hi everyone

Does anyone have a specific part number for the fuel shut off valve?

The plans state to use a 1/4" pipe thread brass close union valve, and my searching has not made me believe I have a specific part number yet.

Anyone have something that they used? I am thinking to put in a fuel shut off handle on the instrument panel, but not certain yet. So I am looking for a valve that makes this possible.....

Hi Robbie,

I used one of these from Wicks, as provided in one of the Sonex hardware kits... FV-107401

Here is a picture of my fuel shut-off handle. I made a bracket under the panel with a snap bushing that the rod goes through and then I screwed on a handle made from a piece of aluminum. My DAR (and other pilot buddies) strongly suggested installing a panel mounted handle and I am very glad that I did. Of course my DAR had me put a label on it as well:
FUEL
Push-ON
Pull-OFF

It's a little hard to see since the blue tape is wrapped around the shutoff valve and fittings but you'll get the idea.

I did a similar thing:

The fuel valve is on/open when the handle is pushed in against the instrument panel, so it's out of the way. When the airplane is shut down the handle is pulled out as shown in the photo. With this you always know the status of the fuel valve at a glance.

When starting and shutting down, I LOVE having a panel mounted shut-off!

I would add to the chorus, that having a fuel shut off valve on the panel is well worth the effort.

Mine is a slightly modified version of Bob Mika's.

The handle was eventually dipped in a red plastic coating.
