Can this be done, is it possible? - Subaru Engine.

Hi guys,

I know many will have opinions on USING and NOT using a Subaru engine on the Sonex... but that is not what I am asking here.

What I would like to know is, can a Subaru engine be used to power the Sonex? Would it mess the the CoG? Is it too heavy? too light? Has anyone tried this or know of anyone who has? I would love to know. I have a friend who has used a Subaru to power his RV, as well as his Dragon Fly. I know these are both considerably heavier aircraft, so that is why I want to know from you guys if his could be feasible?

Any opinions etc?

Thanks,

Jason

There's a fellow putting a subaru EA80? turbo on his CH601 a few hangers down from me. The engine weighs about 240lbs dry. Not including the radiator, fuel pumps, etc. I think its just way too heavy for a Sonex. I've not heard of anyone doing it.
