Rudder Trim Tab

Excuse if this has been covered and search didn't find me it.

When I picked up my new to me plane on Fri - the builder was kind enough to give me a box of extensive spares. Included - and he pointed it out - is SNX-B04-07 - Trim Tab.

And boy after 7 hours cross country - does my left foot need a rudder trim tab!

However - the tab doesn't appear on the rudder drawing and in all the other paper I was given - I can't find anything that might have come with the tab.

So - Can anyone point me at the location to put this. Cessna logic would have me put it at the bottom, most aft part of the trailing edge of the rudder. Right side of the skin so it doesn't crush the trailing edge when bent to the right to trim? And AL rivets to aid removal if necessary - I'm thinking.

TIA for any wisdom on this.

Graeme, most place the rudder trim tab near the bottom of the rudder but I believe it is more effective when placed about mid span if you don't mind the appearance. Mine is a Gurney flap and it is attached (opposite side of yours) with a thin double sided sticky tape which allows for removal and replacement without having to drill out any rivets. The tape is nearly invisible and the tab won't come off without a bit of a struggle.

Have fun with your new airplane,

Thanks Art - Double sided tape while I try it out. Great idea.

I will vouch for the double sided tape. I put it on temporarily back in 2013. It wasn't as temporary as I thought. Ain't coming off without a big fight!

Can you guys give a specific part number/brand for the tape?

Thanks,

Wes

I'm going to try this stuff.

It is sticky as anything but some mineral spirit will get it off if I want to move it. It WILL powder and dry out in UV light - but by then I will have figured where it is going and decided if I am going to rivet it or something else.

I would recommend cloth type double sided tape sold to hold carpets in place. I got mine from Menards.

Go to any autobody shop. They have double sided tape that holds automotive trim on. And that stuff holds aggressively for years. I'm guessing if you told them you only needed 6inches or so, they would likely just cut off a piece and give it to you.
