Help me out. Is he saying people are lying or is he saying you will create too much heat (or have other issues) if you try to get too much power out of a VW conversion? Do the modern VW conversions have more or better cooling fins than my 1969 Bug? Is the basic VW block and heads the same as when the engine was designed in the 40's?

Bob Hoover is (was) a prolific writer and has forgotten more about VW engines then most people will ever know. That being said, being the VW guru does not mean you are the VW "God".

Some of the things he preaches as gospel have been proven at least exaggerated in practical application. The Sonex Turbo being able to keep itself cool is one good example....

A great read to get you thinkin... but don't be scared if your AeroVee does not employ all of his principals... (The prop is on the wrong end!.... or perhaps not)

Hoover says it's not possible to get more than 40-50 hp from a VW conversion without overheating. Basically true...unless you have a very efficient cooling system...like a Sonex!
