Sonex in or Near El Paso

Postby jorgebri60 » Wed Sep 03, 2014 4:49 pm

Afternoon all,
New to board and looking for someone close to me that would be willing to let me sit in his/her sonex or waiex so I can try it on for size. I'm 6'1" 235#s Not a small guy so wanting to see how tight it really would be.
Thank you in advance.

Hopefully you can link up with someone for a test fit! For what it's worth, I have 1-2" and probably at least 10 lbs on you and I fit into my plane fine. There are plenty of Sonex guys out there taller than me. You'll want a plane with the lowered seat mod but as long as you have that, you'll be fine!

Mike Singleton and I (and perhaps Derek Hodges in the Onex) have plans on flying to Big Bend State Park in Late March/early April. If you have not found an opportunity by then, perhaps one of us could help.

Mike,
Can you carry anyone else in it and still have a bit of fuel?
Thank you both for responding.

Hi George,

I've flown with several other guys in the 180-200 lb range and 8-10 gallons of fuel. I'm over the 1100 lb. max takeoff weight recommended by Sonex, but as long as the temps aren't real high my plane still does fine. Remember that I'm based out of an airport in Ohio where the field elevation is only around 1000'.

If at all possible, I try to keep my takeoff weight at or below 1100 lbs and as a result, I have no problems taking my wife a ride!

Understood. Thank you for your input. I'm based out of KELP. We're at 4000 and hot. DA us quite often in the high 5k and often creeps in the 6's and 7's. I'd probably opt for either the turbo (my preference) or the larger jabiru if anything. My biggest concern really is space and capacity though.
Thanks again for your input.
