Question about the right wing rear root rib. Page SNX-W17.

I am about to rivet the root rib in. However, as you can see in the photo, I have a challenge to overcome.

The plans show the rivets from the inside - if you look in the photo there are bolts and nuts in the way.

Suggestions? Anyone been here and done this and remember how??

Thanks

In a pinch, I'd install them any way they will fit. I don't think the rivets know the difference. You may have to uninstall the bolts in the pic, though...:)

Hey Robbie

I riveted the rooot ribs to the brackets before bolting them in. I have those extra long clecoes that held the works together. I drilled the holes I could cleco through the rib and bracket with the brackets clecoed in, also drilled the holes in the skin to the rib before removeing, then took the assembly out and finished drilling out of the wing. Debured and riveted. then reinstalled in the wing. Bolyed the brackets in last. Unfortunately access to the bolts and nuts was difficult for tightening, but doable.

Talk to ya soon

Right rear root rib riveting

Thanks Jim!

And Kip....um....thanks :-)

Waiting to hear from tech support also - I sent them a lighthearted whimsical email to see if I could get a good laugh out of Kerry...

Wow - rivet fun and doing my taxes in one night. Sigh.....

I installed the rivets as shown in the photo. On the right wing the rivets did not get in the way. I had the problem with the left wing and installed 4 or 5 rivets from the other side to clear the bolts. The root ribs are assembled differently. Make sure you have them correctly assembled. Here is a link to my building log. the photo on the right is the rear and the one on the left is the fwd root rib.

Right rear root rib riveting

Postby Sonex1517 » Thu Mar 21, 2013 9:23 pm

Thank you for all the advice! Success!!

I removed all but one bolt (to keep the brackets in place properly and avoid any additional stress) and managed to get all of the rivets installed properly.

Tech support told me to remove the bolts to do it - my sole comment here is the plans are fairly specific about how this sequence of assembly goes and this would make a good note to add about installing these rivets.

On to the rest of the right wing! Hope to start riveting this weekend!!
