Alternate Transponder Mounting/Location

I have a KT76A that I want to install. My panel doesn't have any room. Was going to get a Trig T22 but that price!

Anyone have suggestions on alternative mounting of the transponder other than the panel? Sidewall? Floor?

Also - anyone know the type of edge connector that a KT76a uses and where to get it??

Thanks all!

Greg,
Check out this thread:

Here is my contribution, with my KT76A on the right side of the subpanel. Do you have a subpanel?

I can't remember if the KT76A and the KX155 have the same pins or not. But, pinball machines use the same pins as the KX155 and they are more readily available.

I mounted my unused Garmin transponder under the panel of my Onex. I made two mounting brackets that angled downward to just avoid interference with the back of the transponder and fuel tank. Worked out well.

My Garmin 320A transponder is mounted flat against the bottom of the panel. I did not use the mounting tray (weight savings). It was attached using a short piece of piano hinge on the front & a bracket on the rear that attaches to the glareshield. The encoder is mounted to the bottom of the transponder.

An electrical engineer friend of mine made up the wiring harness. Wired & fused as specified by Garmin. You can see the mounting in this video about three minutes in:

Works very well and just recently was recertified for another two years ...

Don't have the sub-panel. Thanks. Looks nice there.

You could mount it in that location. Just make a mini-sub panel if you don't want to go all the way across. Would be easy.
