Does anyone have an MGL MX1 in your airplane? If so, can you give me your comments on it? Likes? Dislikes? If you had the choice again, would you choose the MX1?

I almost have an MX1 in my plane. It's still in the box, to be correct, but I've started installing the avionics which will be controlled by the MX1. That is the V16 radio and Trig TT22 transponder with the SP-12 gps for ADS-b. I'll also be interfacing a stratux ads-b receiver so that traffic can show up on the MX1.
Looking forward to what others have to say about this small efis/ems.

BRS,
I thought the internal GPS in a MX1 was a waas, raim cable GPS that will support ADS-B. Am I wrong about that?

Yes, the MX1 GPS is WAAS but it seems that it is not approved for the ADS-B system. The SP-12 is. Looks like they both use the same antenna.

I just don't understand why MGL would not design the internal GPS to meet the requirements of ADS-B.

I was reading the install manual for the SP-12 last night. There seemed to be a hint that the MX1 GPS has some anti-jamming and other nice features built in that the SP-12 doesn't. I bet those are more experimental features and that in fact the MX1 GPS is probably more robust with features that can't yet be on an 'approved' GPS source for the ADS-B system. Interesting that the MX1 GPS will channel to the xpndr in the case that the SP-12 fails. Not sure what happens to the ADS-B integrity if this happens.

I had the EFIS Lite on my Sonex with a Trig Xpdr. I was not a huge fan of it compared to the other EFIS systems I have used since (Dynon SkyView D1000T system in my RV9 and going with GRT MiniX in my 750 CruzerSD). Not as solid of an interface / performance issues with the ADAHRS made the A/P unstable at times.
I did consider briefly the MX1 for my 750. In talking to them they did tell me a new transponder (MGL brand) will be coming out this year and will interface with the MX1. I suspect it solved the ADSB complications with the Trig unit paired to an MGL.
Just my $0.02.
