outside air temperature probe

The MGL Stratomaster E3 engine monitor comes with a very small outside air temperature probe. Does anybody have a suggestion for placement? I was thinking the side of the fuselage, forward of the spar tunnel. I haven't decided on a way to mount it or protect it on the outside of the fuselage yet.

The MGL Xtreme in my Sonex has a similar OAT probe. I mounted mine on the pilot side, fuselage side vertical panel, just behind my NACA fresh air vent.

If you have one of the NACA vents for cockpit cooling, you could mount it inside that so its protected. Here's an example:

Found a picture and realized it's behind the NACA vent. See pic. It's a small aluminum probe.

Has anyone added one to the discovery lite efis? The internal one inside the unit has to be far from accurate.

I added an external OAT probe to my discovery lite. It's inside the NACA vent to keep it away from direct sunlight. It works well.

If using one of the plastic NACA intake vents, there is another advantage to using that for mounting the outside air temp probe. Plastic is a good insulator so it should read actual outside air temp and not that of the aluminum sidewall, and response to outside air temp changes will not be damped by the mass of the aluminum.
