Hi All,

I have the old MGL Stratomaster Maxi single E1 engine monitor:

And I have the Sonex VDO temperature sender which screws in the sump plate (VW engine off course).

I’m not getting any sensible readings though, is this engine monitor supposed to work with this type of sensor?
I can configure the sensor type to either MGL, Rotax, LM335 or Westach. None give me any good readings (some very high, some very low).
I currently have no oil in the engine yet so I would expect it to indicate ambient temperature (like my CHT/EGT probes are currently doing).

Any ideas?
Cheers,
Michael

I have the enigma with the Sonex supplied oil temp sender. The display shows 32 degrees until the oil temp is above 72. today I had an oil temp indicated of 78 degrees before I started the engine, usually when the weather is cool it has to run a few min. to get a temp. reading. I wonder if you are seeing the same thing and the probe isn't warm enough for the display to read anything. I think this was in my owners manual.

It's indicating much higher than that, 115 degrees Celcius on some settings, 195 on others.
on one of the choices it indicates 0.

I would give Matt at MGL a call. He is a great guy and really knows his stuff. In all my problems with MGL instruments it has always been something I didn't set up right. He responds to email quickly.
