Where to place the MGL SP-6 Compass and SP-7 AHRS?

I was wondering where people are installing their MGL SP-6 Compass and SP-7 AHRS units.

I am installing dual XTreme EFISs.
I was thinking of putting the SP-7 AHRS under the seat on the channel supports in the middle.
And the SP-6 Compass on the cross tie channel at the rear of the baggage area.

Any Comments?

I'm pretty sure the elevator pushrod is supposed to go exactly where you have the SP-7 (at least in the lowered-seat Sonex).

I like Fastcapy's locations. I would be careful about the proximity to the steel pushrod and the magnetometer, but it sounds like it's not an issue for him, so that's what I'd try. A little simpler than making a mount in the baggage area that could potentially interfere with a baggage sling.

I don't know if I have the newest firmware update. How can I check?
Thanks

I put mine pretty much where you did (other than my magnetometer hangs out over the bay behind the luggage area). For the magnetometer I tested locations with a wet compass including under the seat, but all the steel for the controls were making the compass needle turn, so I put it back where you did, installed with brass screws, and it seems to work perfectly.

When did you get it?
The big firmware update came last year which radically changed the way it calibrates. I gave mine to MGL at AirVenture 2013 to update. So if you received it before July of 2013, you probably need the update. You can probably do it yourself but you will need to build a cable to do it.

I got mine the first part of this year (2014). So I think I have the newer firmware. The documentation that came with it references the new calibration instructions as of July 2013.
Thanks for the info.

I live near MGL and talked to Matt when I picked up my avionics. He told me to make sure to use a simple backpacking compass to check for magnetic interference and to make sure I use a solid mount. He also said they have had good results eliminating hi frequency vibrations using velcro to attach the SP-6 and SP-7 to their mount. Here is what I did.
