V-10 Bad Reception

I have the MGL V-10 COM - Enigma setup in my Sonex with the RAMI antenna on the turtldeck. I had interference but have eliminated it with the ferrite beads.
It seems that I have good transmitting power but I have trouble with reception.
Has anyone had trouble with reception and what have you done to remedy the problem? I did not realize the reception problem until I tried using flight following and I lose approach. They can't contact me and I can't conact them.
I know I didn't give much information, but I am just looking for a staring point for remedying the problem.
I welcome all ideas before I have to take it to a repair station.
Thanks

Have you tried opening the squelch all the way? I haven't flown my v6 yet, but I do get a little interference from my Enigma that limits how low I can set the squelch. The amplitude increases as I move my hand near the face of the instrument so I might think I have it set correctly until the squelch opens when operating the Enigma.

I've been curious if this will give me the same problem you're seeing, so I plan to be prepared to open the squelch all the way until I get it figured out in the air.

It is interesting that you were able to remedy some of your interference problem with ferrite beads. They don't seem to have any affect for me, but my noise might be of a different type or amplitude.

Chris, I usually have the squelch set low, picks up fainter transmissions, and when I get static I bump it up two beeps to clear the static, until it happens again. I usually squelch until I pick up only the closest transmissions or else I will hear constant static.
Jeff Shultz's #0604 building log has some good info on the Ferrite beads.
