Transponders

Postby GraemeSmith » Tue Sep 21, 2021 7:02 pm

My Micro-Aire T2000 display has decided to fade away to blank. Micro-Aire USA tell me it's a back to factory for repair.

So with the costs involved in that....

Reviews and Suggestions for STANDALONE Transponders would be appreciated. I'll probably just replace.

I’ve been very happy with Trig 22 transponders. Easy ADSB out if you buy the tn70 gps too. I have them in all 3 of my aircraft.

I have had the Sandia STX 165 panel mounted transponder for 7 years. My ADSB is via uAvionics echoUAT sniffing the transponder code. They have a remote head option, too.

I’ve used Trig transponders for my sailplanes and like ‘em. I have one mounted on my soon-to-fly Sonex and it’s been great so far in ground testing!

As far as I'm concerned, that T2000 should never have made it into the US market. Mine has been in the shop on multiple occasions, including twice to Australia, and even the factory couldn't keep it working properly (but the display works great).

Since I have a Dynon Skyview already in the panel, I recently purchased the Dynon version of the Trig transponder but it's not yet installed. You'd likely be happy with the Trig unit as others have suggested for some time now.

I haven’t installed it yet, but I followed Mikes example and purchased a Sandia STX 165R. The MGL EFIS will control the transponder operation and the actual transponder box (only around 7”x3”x2”) will fit about anywhere. If you want to maximize panel space, that may be an option to consider.

I'm the "squeak when I walk" builder as I installed a Garmin 320A along with the Echo UAT and have ADSB in & out. Did my second PAPRR (I do one every year after the condition is finished) and it came back excellent. I may upgrade to the Garmin 327 soon ... 8~)

Went with the Sandia- a mixture of price and actual availability - with everything else on back order. Installed today, Mode C check with KPVD - all good there. Booked the shop for the 24 month transponder check.
