Suggestions for adding GPS175 in full subsonex panel?

Postby tommyg » Wed Apr 03, 2024 4:48 pm

Hi all,

I'm buying a partially built SubSonex that already includes a 10" G3X with remote mounted COMM radio. Of course, even though the G3X can control an IFR GPS it can't control ALL of the functions so Garmin does not make a remote mounted GPS and the panel is really full.

Does anyone have suggestions for how to mount a GPS 175 or similar LPV capable GPS? I was thinking either on top of the panel with an upper extension or bottom left of the panel with a lower extension similar to this one https://paegelow.blogspot.com/2020/08/p ... ng-10.html

Picture of panel attached.

Thanks!

Personally i would put it on a new enclosure up top, otherwise I would probably suggest moving the ELT control panel moving that panel to the top of the middle stack and with the space from the ELT control panel you can move the switches or breakers down and it looks like the 175 will fit in that space but you will have to measure the ELT can go to the lower left of the main panel. The only reason i suggest moving the GPS up is you want to minimize how much you look down for spacial disorientation reasons,

Lots of panel images in this thread:

Not many of us can speak to the Subsonex directly. I've got a subpanel and it works good.
