Sonex 813 First Flight

Postby tonyr » Sun Oct 05, 2014 7:56 pm

Hi Guys,

After a rather long gestation of 8 years, 2months and 28 days (but who's counting) happy to report Sonex 813 made its first flight Saturday 4 Oct 14 at 3:30pm.
Weather was a little windy and bumpy at Callington Airstrip, South Australia but everything went well.
Three circuits and 6 or seven landings , I called it a day for a total of 31 mins.

Earlier in the day I went for a short familiarisation flight in another Sonex, with Peter Anson (we don't have the option of transition training down under!)
That did help with conditions, sight pictures and aircraft feel. Thanks Peter!
Lynn Jarvis the first Aussie to build a Sonex (#143) was also on hand for photos and support.

Cheers
Tony

Congrats Tony! I read the story on your site and see where you and I had at least one thing in common on our first flights as you stated, "Bounced the first landing but was able to power on and fly out of it." All too familiar!

I liked the video and it sure looked bumpy ... especially on final over the tree line! For those that didn't find it look here:

Looks and sounds great. Enjoy!

Congratulations. It has to be a great feeling to take it up for the first time after 8 years of building.
