I rolled my Waiex out of the hangar today and did my first taxi tests since the new engine installation and general aircraft rebuild program.
The new Viking engine runs really well. It runs smoothly and seems full of power and ready to go! All pressures and temps were in the green and the engine loves to run.
With differential braking and the 6 inch tailwheel it taxis real nice and is very controllable.
Only two items noted from the taxi tests:
The fuel pressure indicator failed and reads 57 psi at all times (even with the engine is not running). I'll be talking to Dynon this week to get the fix for this.
The new Sonex disc brakes work well but they are a bit weak feeling. Seems right for new disc brakes, I'm sure they will improve as I get some more hours on the plane and use them more.
I really, really like having toe brake pedals and differential braking. Wow....just like a real aircraft! It is so nice to have toe brakes and not have to take my hand off the throttle to pull on that darned brake lever!
Weather permitting, I'll be taxiing every day after work. As soon as I get the fuel pressure readings straightened out I will roll it down the runway and start my test flights.
My two major events this year will be the Rio Linda show in May and the "big show" at Oshkosh.
Hope to see you there!
