Is it too soon to talk about this? I don't think so.
I picked up my bird after Airventure last year but I am committed this year. It's Sonex 25 year anniversary - should be a great event for us Sonex drivers.
Last time I went was in 2019. I had a C172 then and camped under the wing. Removed the backseat and stuffed to max GW. I will not have nearly the room to bring things this year. My wife wants to go too.
Question for Sonex pilots:
Are you going?
Flying in your Sonex/Waiex/OneX or driving?
Is there a Sonex mass arrival?
Where is everyone staying? Camping or lodging somewhere?
Are you bringing luggage or shipping ahead of time?

I am definitely going. I plan to camp in homebuilt camping. I have both an RV-12 and a Onex. I would like to fly the Onex and I have a friend who may be able to take my tent, other equipment, and clothes. If he does and I will fly the Onex. If he can't take my stuff, I will fly the RV-12 because it can hold me and all my necessary stuff.
I want to fly the Onex and participate in the mass taxi from the Sonex factory over to the show side of the airport. I will be there for the open house on Sunday morning.

I am 101 NM south of kosh. I'll drive my Saturn up with a trailer. I'll pull my motorcycle off, ride home, fly the Waiex up.

From a recent Facebook post of Kerry’s it sounds like he’s retiring before AirVenture.
Well, in recent conversations with him, I asked if he wanted that information to be “Restricted”. He told me that he wasn’t going to hide the truth and that he would indeed have far more ability to explore Airventure than he has had in over 20 years. I’m sure the entire Sonex community will miss his counseling of our shared addiction! You may want to wish him Blue Skies as he transitions to his next life chapter.

Hi all,
Well if its true kerry is retiring from Sonex, then everyone needs to tip their hat to him for his wisdom , guidance
and help over the years.
it will never be the same so be thankful for his emails and help.
Congrats and we look forward to see what his next chapter in his aviation life will be.

Going to AV. I think this will be 23 years in a row. I made it to 2020, even if nobody else did :-). I took photos to prove it. I'll be in a camper in Camp Scholler as usual.
Flew my Sonex in last year. Not this year. Building an RV-7, now. Fun to be looking for parts and information again. 9 years flying the Sonex, and at least another 3 before I finish the RV. Have loved every minute of owning and flying my Sonex (scratch built). One of the best life decisions I ever made.

All -
I realize that I'm late to the party, but is there going to be any attempt at a "Camp Sonex" this year? I would love to finally meet folks in person and camp with similar-minded builders!
Thanks,
--Noel
Sonex #1339 (finally flying!)

Another question for the camp Sonex veterans: do you still taxi over for the Sonex open house? I am leaning towards HBC this year.

Can I ship my tent etc via UPS to myself at Airventure? And back home?
