Well everyone, we're less than a week away from the start of the big show! The long range forecast is looking good thus far with daytime high's in the mid 70's and low's in the mid 50's. Wayne and Joe, if you can make this happen we'd all appreciate it!
For everyone driving to the show, be safe and have a great trip!
For everyone flying, let's all be safe as well. I wanted to start one final note here for those who have flown in before to offer advice for those who have never flown into AirVenture. You've already read some excellent information from people which include:
- Have a lot of fuel when you hit RIPON. Everyone has their own comfort level as to how much fuel is "enough", but as many have pointed out, with so many local fuel stops in the vicinity, you might as well arrive with nearly a full tank! You never know what will happen so let's take fuel out of the equation.
- Read the NOTAM! Again if necessary. I've been flipping through it a lot just to ensure there are no surprises. The arrival procedure is fairly simple and logical, but with the general volume of traffic arriving at once, you'll want to spend as much time looking outside as possible! Over Ripon is NOT the place to be flipping through the NOTAM!
- Speaking of eyes, the more the merrier. If you have access to a fellow pilot looking for a ride, take them along! The last few times I've flown in, I spend hours and hours never seeing another airplane, then around 20 miles south of Ripon all of the sudden I'm in a swarm. It's tough keeping track of things when you have a Cub on one side and a Lancair on the other. An extra set of eyes for safety sake can be invaluable, so don't be afraid to take a friend along!
- Have your parking signs ready. You'll breathe a big sigh of relief once you're on the ground, but the ground ops can be tricky as well. The volunteers marshaling you are great but they need your help by making things easy to read. Make your signs easy to read from 100' away at least to help them out!
Does anyone else have anything they'd like to add?
Can't wait to see everyone! Catch you all soon!
