We had another successful fly-in here in North Carolina. Although we had the early afternoon threat of heavy rain, 45 attendees managed to descend on the Asheboro, NC airport. We attracted attendees from NC, SC, TN, VA, and GA. We hosted six (6) Sonex aircraft this year with an equal mix of Sonex and Waiex aircraft. We would like to thank Kip Laurie, Will Dovel, and Ron Fugunt for flying their beautiful airplanes into our event! We also attracted a lot of "other" brands including EuroFoxes, RV's (4, 6A, 12), a Varieze, a Sport Cruiser, and a Cessna. The morning was filled with lots of talk around the airplanes and 6 demo flights were given by Peter and Wayne. At Noon, pizza was served and lively discussions were overheard around the table. After lunch, we awarded some door-prizes. The local FBO (Cardinal Air) awarded a 5 gallon fuel voucher to the Sonex pilot who flew the furthest to attend.....that went to Kip Laurie, flying in from near Atlanta, Georgia. We then awarded the door-prizes donated by Sonex Aircraft and MGL Avionics. Three presentations were given, the first describing adding fuel injection to Jabiru and VW engines by Michael Crowder and Peter van Schalkwyk. The second presentation was done by Robert Frost on general engine assembly tips concentrating on rings, pistons, etc. And finally, Charlie Steffey gave an overview of the Sonex plans. All three presentations sparked continued conversations. After the presentations the crowds again moved back out to the ramp around the aircraft. As weather started to move in, more and more of the aircraft started leaving. By 3:30pm the last aircraft had left and we ended the event. Within 15 minutes of landing back at my home airport, the skies opened up and 3 inches of rain came down in the next 12 hours.

Pictures of the event can be found at

We would like to thanks everyone who came and especially all the pilots that brought their aircraft. Without you this event would not have happened!

Thanks,
Michael Crowder
Wayne Andrews
Peter van Schalkwyk
Shayne van Schalkwyk
Charlie Steffey
