Illinois Sonex

Postby jmattson » Sun Jan 12, 2014 9:52 pm

Hey everybody,
First post for this lurker. I figured it was about time jump into the Sonex group and introduce myself! Just a little info for those who are curious...
I'm 19 and a first time builder-MANY things yet to learn! I bought my Sonex project from a very good friend in my EAA chapter. I'm a plans builder with serial #555. I'm getting a GREAT deal on a 0 time VW engine so that's what I plan on using. My project was bought with fuselage and main spars done along with other miscellaneous pieces completed. I'm currently working on ribs and gussets, but it's slow going with budget and time. Well that's about all I have to say for now! I look forward to talking to all you guys and learning all I can! P.S. If any builders or Sonex flyers are near Springfield, Il hit me up! I'd like to meet and see your aircraft!

Hey Josh,

Thanks for posting! We're really glad that you're here and have been able to purchase the Sonex kit to finish. You'll love the Sonex and with your deal on the VW engine, it sounds like you're all set!

It looks like you have a few builders in your local area if you look at sonexaircraft.com and perform a builders search on the Builder Network tab. If you'd be willing to drive a little ways, Robbie Culver (Sonex1517) has organized a Chicago area builders group and I'm sure they'd be happy to have you join!

If you have any questions, please let us know. In the meantime, we'd love to hear status updates on your project as you work on the wings.

Good luck!

Hey Josh

We have an informal Chicago area Sonex builders group but you may also want to visit http://sonexfoundation.com/ and check out the resources there.

Look forward to hearing your build progress and I think it is great to see another young person tackling a project!

Thanks Robbie. I've taken a look at the Sonex Foundation-seems like some pretty good stuff over there.
