Any VR videos.

Has anyone posted any virtual reality videos of their Sonex flights?

Just purchased an Oculus VR headset. Thinking about buying a 360 VR camera and producing some content.

Hi Michael. Just saw your post and decided to throw up an unedited 360 video for testing purposes. Just a simple approach and landing, but I'm curious how well it works for your VR headset. This is from a Gopro Max 360 camera.

Interesting. I'll take a look at it later on my PSVR system. FYI... I've found a few 3d Sonex vids that are interesting to watch. I have looked at them with my PSVR and on a Nintendo 3DS. (you can change the format from Top/Bottom, StS, or RB.

Thanks Ryan. Just watched the video, and it’s amazing! For those out there that have never viewed a 360 video it’s almost impossible to describe. Almost like being there. I watched on an Oculus 2. Looks like I’ll be buying a 360 camera today.

Interesting, there is a slight 3D effect, but it’s not a ‘just like being there’ feel.

Just finished my first flight test using the GoPro MAX 360 °
camera. Take a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvUYAvdWCWs

A VR headset will give you the best experience. On a desktop computer use your mouse cursor to drag around to see left, right, back, up and down. For IOS and Android move the device around to shift the view.

The camera was mounted on the turtle deck just aft of the canopy. I didn’t realize how much the forward visibility would be obstructed. Next time I’ll mount it on the right wing. You’ll get the best view of the landing by looking back towards the tail.

Note about the gap between the canopy and turtle deck. In reality it isn’t as wide as the video would lead you to believe. The gap looks large because the camera is about 4 inches away.

Watched this on my computer earlier and thought "What's the point of recording a distorted image?" but the penny finally dropped and I tried it on my iPad. Very neat!

I've tested viewing the video on my Windows 10 desktop and it does work. Several friends have also verified it works on their desktops. Most likely the internet browser on your computer is not up to date. 360 video viewing features have only been added to browsers in the last couple of years. If your computer has more than one browser installed try another.

You can fly in X-plane 11 in VR. There are some Sonex aircraft models for it, unfortunately not set up for touching with VR controllers but a joystick will do it which is still fairly real. I tried it out before buying mine and it was dimensionally identical. Will have to see about flight characteristics.. the default model was set up for 120hp which only demonstrates the Jabiru unless edited.
