Value of Aerovee?

Postby CJpilot316 » Mon Oct 21, 2013 9:08 pm

I just became the heir of an Aerovee 2.1 4cyl 80hp engine. It's new, never flown. I have a Cessna 172, so this little thing really won't help me any. I'd like to sell it, and see the price on the website as $7,000 new, but I honestly have no idea what it's worth considering it isn't like right out of the factory. Any thoughts before I list it?

Man you're lucky! I wish I could inherit stuff like that!

Let me ask you a few questions...is the AeroVee assembled, or still in boxes? If it's assembled, how long ago was it put together? Has it ever ran? Does the baffling kit, exhaust pipes, starter, or anything else come with it? If you could tell us the story that would help!

Where are you located at? Yeah they're $7,000 for the unassembled kit and I've seen assembled ones online sell from $4,000-6,000, depending on condition.

Thanks for posting! Let us know!

I'm located in Maine. But I do have the Cessna, and could fly it anywhere in the northeast.

Someone has probably already mentioned this but that motor isn't an Aerovee 2.1. It is one of the very old conversions done by the Monetts well before Sonex was formed. I have no idea on value but just wanted to let you know that it isn't the same motor that Sonex is selling for $7000. You might be able to send John Monett a picture of the motor and see if he can give you some information on exactly what it is you have there.

I've never even seen an AeroVee like that, this must be from long before the Sonex/AeroConversion days?

Looks to me like it was for, or would suit a Sonerai. They ran a prop shaft extension that looked like that
