Knot curiosity

I'm new to Kitplanes/Homebuilts/LSA etc., but not new to flying (since'94) and I'm wondering why the standard unit of Airspeed measurement seems to be MPH instead of knots in most of the different performance specs I've seen on these types (not just Sonex)?
