Matched hole magic

Well, I hadn't seen anyone post much about the matched hole construction, so here we go - photos to follow.

I started the fuselage this weekend with my sub kit that had matched hole parts. Wow!

It was like a big (expensive) erector set! I took out the parts, clecoed them to the fuselage this evening after doind some other prep work over the weekend. The matched holes in the channel line up perfectly with the holes in the side fuselage skin. Some clecoes and voila! It looks like a fuselage in the making....

Off to take a few photos.....back shortly....

a few photos - I know they aren't exciting, but I can only imagine the amount of fabrication and pilot drilling that scratch builders or non matched hole kit builders must go through to get here. These are F26-01R, F26-02R, F26-03R, F26-04R, and F26-05R as shown on page F25 in their positions on the right fuselage skin. One former is at the upped edge just for reference.

Lots of fabrication to do but this is a huge time saver and a welcome addition to the kit and sub kits!!

That is cool. You will probably finish your fuselage in no time. I agree, not fair.
Think about all the measuring and drilling you will miss out on. Have fun and enjoy

I have reached the conclusion (and I am NOT complaining!) that this may be cheating. I just completed page SNX-F24 in about twenty minutes. Most builder web sites I read mention how critical it was to make the cross tie box assembly square.

With the matched holes it already is.

My brother was building an RV, and refers to matched hole construction as a "competitive advantage" - I think I agree.
