CCP-42 rattling rivet

Postby Marrahm » Thu Mar 01, 2018 6:58 pm

I have one rivet on one wing rib gusset that is giving me a headache. No matter what i do, the set rivet rattles very slightly and is not tight in the hole. The hole itself is less than 1/64th oversize after 4 removals. I’ve set with high pressure, low, and using a hand puller and same result. I’m using the -42 rivets in place of the -41s per sonex’s latest instructions, but i dont’ know if that contributes to the issue or not. All the other rivets set just fine.

I dont’ see CPP-51 or 52 rivets (next diameter up and less grip length) anywhere, assuming there is such a thing. Don’t see -41s either for that matter. What’s best practice here?

Thanks!
Mike

I'd use a solid rivet.

You can also use an oversize cherry if you run into a situation where you don't have access to use a solid rivet:
