Brake fluid

I'm installing Great Plains brakes with Grove master cylinders. The brakes say to use automotive
brake fluid, the Grove master cyls call for 5606 aviation brake fluid. Which would be the
best choice? Will either damage the seals?

Thanks!
Rick

Hey Rick. I'll think you'll find Great Plains brakes specify automatic transmission fluid. Not brake fluid. I use Dexron 3 in my Great Plains brakes.

Hi Steve, my brakes have an orange sticker on them that says 'use standard sae automotive brake fluid'.

I researched 5606 on the Spruce site and what they sell as 5606 is actually Shell hydraulic fluid. I think
Ill go with that for now and see if it affects the brake seals. Also if I need to add fluid later on, my chances
of finding 5606 at an airport are better than finding transmission fluid or automotive brake fluid.

Hi Rick. If thats the case they must use different seals now. Here are the bleeding instructions from their website, they also mention dot 5 fluid.

I have the Great Plains system and have used aircraft 5606 from the start. 160 hours and works fine. No issues. Sonex/corvair #1212
