After 4 owners and many years Waiex 132 got it's airworthiness certificate yesterday April 6th. It took 3 FAA inspectors to get the job done. Three showed up for the inspection and they went over the plane with a fine tooth comb. Glad they did not find anything wrong. Now it is time to move it to an airport and get it ready for it's first flight. I see Sonex has suspended it transition training. That's too bad I was going to take advantage of it. Will have to work out some other way to figure out how the plane flies before I fly it.

Hi Don,
A big congrats to you! Maybe see what your insurance will require, and go from there. Also if any sonex/waiex fliers live nearby can give you a few rides to a least get a feel.
Also what engine is installed? Just wondering for the torque on takeoff, which way, our jab 3300 we feed in the power slowly and progressively lots of rt rudder.

You have a Sonex on the field at 3MY. But if you want some stick time, I'd be happy to fly down, I'm just up the street in Chicago. Send me at PM if interested.

That's great of you to offer Josh, it's in keeping of my pay it forward demand . But although I would love to get you down here I will take on the task of getting Don ready for his first flight. Even though it is a normally aspirated Waiex, it is a tail dragger. I got the opportunity to look over his project twice as a tech counselor and I'm confident the ship is ready to go. Can't wait to hear the tale of the first flight and to see that Sonex grin!!!

Whatever happened to the transition training ? I hope it's only temporary.

Given the wonderful weather our factory friends face, T Flight has never been offered from December through March or April. No one wants to freeze to death!
I'm not sure when T Flight will resume but hopefully it will be soon. If you have specific questions about it, I'd recommend a quick call to the factory to ask for specifics. The last I heard, at least one employee was finishing their CFI so they could instruct as part of the program.

Unfortunately for us Joe Norris went back to EAA. Good for him,it's where he needs to be; but bad for us. Sonex seems committed to T-flight so I'm sure it will be back soon. I didn't have the luxury when my plane was finished so my first ride in a Sonex was also the first flight of N861SX. Not a wise thing to do but the only choice available at the time. As more Sonex products are flying it is on all of us to provide stick time to prospective builders and those who are ready for their first flight.

Thanks for the offer Josh. It will be a short time yet before I am ready. I am working on my tail wheel endorsement. I am sure I will be able to work something out.
