Ok, I admit it. I occasionally glance (when no-one is looking) at VAF...caught the following discussion about corrosion of powder coated control parts. Curious about the experience with our birds:

I wouldn't worry. It's baked paint. Sand it and prime. I would recommend scuffing, priming and painting all powder coated controls brackets. If not treated eventually all of them start rusting. I can show you mine after 5 years of flying unpainted

Why would sanding it and repainting it be superior to just leaving the original powder coat on?

For scratches and scuffs I can see it - I applied some paint over the elevator control horn after working with it per the plans. Not sure why one would sand off a perfectly good powder coat though.

That was the context of the original post, what caught my interest was Vlad's recommendation to paint it all. Is powdercoating adequate protection for steel parts against corrosion?

Absolutely. My steel structure trampoline sits outside 24/7/365. Anything that is powder coated is in perfect condition. All my powder coated Sonex parts are in mint condition. When something gets a nick I paint just the nick.

I think Vlad was just saying 'clean up the damaged area' and paint that ;-).
