Fitting gear legs in mount

So what's the trick? Take a few thousandths off the leg or hone out the mount? There is no way the legs will go in the mount without changing one or the other.

I spent some quality time with sandpaper and a file on the inside of the mount tube. I actually had some weld slag that was causing the issue.

I may have scotch-brited the sockets. I definitely used oil. It was a nice tight fit. I bonded on the axles and both sides of the tail spring because the fit was not as awesome.

As I recall, found burrs, paint buildup. When all cleaned up, needed to wrap the gear legs with a a bit of thin stainless steel shim stock to get good tight fit. This was true of both top and bottom. Top end on my tail-dragger mount had short sections of heavier wall tubing at both ends which makes getting the shim stock all the way in a bit tricky. Think I put shim stock in first, then slid gear leg into that.
