Solid rivets

Has anyone used solid rivets for the whole plane? I thought I saw one for sale in Florida somewhere. I am considering using solid rivets for my plane and would like to talk to anyone with some insight.

If you did it, would you do it again?
How to convert from CCP-42 etc to solid rivet size.
Any pictures so I can see a plane finished this way would be great.

Ron Voss built his second Sonex using solid rivets instead of pop rivets.

I did the fuselage in solids and the flying surfaces with the standard Pop rivets. A lot of the fuselage can be back riveted on the bench.

Hi Steve,

Like your new prop/spinner.
Did you modify your wheel pants as well?

Cheers,
Michael

With solid rivet sizing compared to CCP 42. Solid rivets are sized on how much of the rivet protrudes on the shop head side before setting. Nominally its 1.5 x Diameter of the rivet. So to cover off the CCP 42 you will need more than just one length of solid rivet.
The good news is they are very inexpensive compared to CCPs. They are sold by weight.

Hi Micheal
The spinner and prop were completed a few years ago. The wheel pants are a recently completed mod. They add about 4kts at cruise over the original pants. Vans shape, upscaled 20% for the bigger tires.

Hello all,

This may be off topic. I just want all that may be interested, to know, that I am still working on my Waiex. I had a pretty serious incidence a few weeks ago. I managed to overcome that problem without selling what I had built of my Waiex as well as other assets.
So enough about that.
My Waiex's fuselage is completed to the point of installing thr tail empennage while I wait to order the remaining kits to complete the build.
Thanks to all that have helped me get to this point in the build, and hope I can count on you for more of that help as I continue building.
