Sonex Builders and Pilots Foundation BBQ dinner at Oshkosh

Postby Sonex1517 » Mon Jul 06, 2015 10:12 pm

Only two weeks to Oshkosh! Yikes!

We have apx 40 people who have provided an RSVP for the SBPF BBQ at Wayne Daniels place, and if you do not RSVP we will not have food for you! The date is set as Wednesday July 22nd, 2015.

We are cooking up brats and burgers, with beans and some pasta salad or such as a side. We will also offer some sort of dessert, like cookies.

Cost will be about $5 per person at the food line - cash only please. We will have some pop and water, but neither the foundation or Wayne are serving alcohol. If you wish to drink alcohol, bring it yourself and you won't be driving anything that evening. That is not negotiable.

To handle the logistics of getting people to the other side of the airport and back, we have a small staff of volunteer drivers (THANK YOU!!). Plans are to meet in front of the EAA museum (at the frontage road) at 6 pm for pickup.

EAA runs trams to the museum, or it is a short walk over to the museum from the show. For those who will drive on their own or need directions as a volunteer driver, contact me and I will be sure you get his address.

We will be sure the pick up vehicles have a sign or something to show you who is getting you. If anyone wants to go over before then, let us know - Wayne is willing to accommodate us early.

The night airshow is a highlight of the week, and we can enjoy it from the perspective of Wayne's backyard.

If you are planning on coming please RSVP at robbie@sonexfoundation.org - PLEASE RSVP NOW so we can be sure we buy enough food, water, and pop.

Robbie's cell phone number is Eight Four Seven Two Seven One Zero Seven Two One if anyone needs to contact me now or at the show. (Sorry - numbers typed out get misused)

We now have over 50 people attending the BBQ, which is great!

For those meeting up at the museum entrance on the frontage road at 6 pm for a ride - please be patient! We are doing this on a volunteer basis, on a road which will be busy, and doing so after the airshow finishes. It could take some time to get everyone over to Wayne's but we will get it done.

My goal is to have a sign that says SONEX PICNIC for each vehicle that is ferrying folks over.

If you have not RSVP'd please do so - I will no longer be accepting RSVP's one week from today, Friday July 17th - so you have until then to let us know you are going to attend.

Thanks everyone for making this easy on us and letting us know who is coming and if you can drive - the responses have been great and we should have a wonderful time together.

We have 7 that have RSVP'd but we have a vehicle to get ourselves there if we can get the address. That would save 14% of the carpooling necessary :-)

I wanted to post this today since I know many people head to Oshkosh early.

Attached is the sign I am going to give to people ferrying our friends over to Wayne's for the picnic on Wednesday night.

We currently have 62 people going and 6 or less cars to do this - so please, be patient.

If things go as planned, I will start ferrying folks over as early as 5 (earlier if I get phone calls that people are ready) but this is also about the time the airshow lets out.

We are going to try to have one person at the front of the museum, right by the frontage road, with a sign so people know where to wait. As this is our first picnic, and an all volunteer effort, again - please be patient. We will do our best and get everyone over there as safely and quickly as we can.

If you know you are driving PLEASE help us out and make multiple trips to pick up your friends. Wayne's house is a short drive but we really need your assistance here.

See attached.

Looks like we had 68 total who made it to 7th Heaven for the BBQ.

Thanks again to Wayne and Kathy Daniels for hosting, everyone who helped shuttle people over, and all the folks that attended.

It was our extreme pleasure to be able to host this event! Kathy and I very much enjoyed hosting this, renewing friendships and meeting new friends in the Sonex community. Part of our enjoyment of living ON KOSH is sharing our location with so many friends. Many thanks to all who came and to those who pitched in hauling stuff back and forth from the house to our hangar as well as the help in cleaning up and restoring some order to 7th Heaven! One more party here on Saturday! To those who couldn't make it this year...hope to see you next year and a sincere thank you to all who joined us this year! We had a blast and hope you did too! I know Jeremy was with us in spirit as ha has joined us so many times before!
