Sharpie markers and paint jobs

I am wondering if anyone has had a problem with using the sharpie on a skin surface and having the marks bleed through the paint? I worked in the paint department at Fords and a big no no was using a magic marker
on the metal before painting as it always bled through .If someone from body shop marked a surface we had to sand the marks off completely.Maybe the permanent markers are different and this won't happen but before I put a mark on the skins I'd like to know for sure it's not a problem.Thanks.

yeah I experienced this even when it appears invisible it can still bleed through. It can be used to an advantage when numbering parts like ribs etc. The best product I have found to remove sharpie marks is believe it or not aerogard it just runs away. I shudder to think what side affects it has on the skin.

Thanks Steve.Good to know.As I plan to paint my plane I will use painters tape on the skins where I have to make marks.I'm surprised it's not mentioned in the other forums. At Fords if a unit got through paint with magic marker not removed beforehand the only way to get rid of the bleed through was to sand down to bare metal and repaint.

Acetone removes sharpie from metal. To remove sharpie from skin, try sunblock - it works!
