Wing ribs

I'm starting on the wings finally, and the ribs in particular. Confused what the goal here is to build them. Do I cut all the ribs out and make them all Rib 1, then trim them down? Or cut the blanks, trim and bend to individual sizes based on rib number?

Thanks

Remember a while back someone was selling the lot of ribs for 300 bucks. That would make my day. So do not like making formed sheet!

The first 4 or 5 inboard ribs need individual trimming to clear the spar. SNX-W14 and SNX-W15.

I would make all 24 ribs the same for the forming part. After forming, trim the few ribs that need trimming. When assembling / drilling I would then consider them as individual pieces and would number them.

Disclaimer; I have only kitbuilt a Sonex and had the pre formed ribs to work with. I have previously plansbuilt a Sonerai.

When I did my ribs I cut them all the same and trimmed them after forming as described above. Then numbered them. I had to do some additional trimming as I assembled the wings. My plane is plans built.

This was the start of my rib building journey, with many, many entries after that.

Except for the root ribs they're all identical, so I just made identical ribs until I got up the the right count. In fact I have an extra because I mis-counted and made one too many. Better than the other way around :-) I made all the blanks, then bent all the flanges, then used the fluting pliers to get everything straight.

So is it the two notches on each rib that changes and not the overall rib then. I was thinking that as the ribs went out they got shorter. Same think on the forward rib as rear rib?

correct.

No they are all the same length. The exception is the root rib where the spar attach flanges are trimmed off. For forming just make them all the same size including the root rib and trim later.
