I am ready to rivet the Horizontal Stabilizer but since I had so much trouble fitting the cap on vertical , been thinking about doing the caps before riveting . Is there any reason not to do this ?
Note that I have not made the elevators yet .
Thanks
Ben

You can fit them before riveting the whole assembly, but you will either need to trim the elevator to fit the opening (not ideal) or install the elevator, fit the tips and tip ribs to the gap required, then rivet the tips in place.

Thanks Scott, I'm not sure if I understand you right about trimming the elevator . I thought as long as the elevator was the same length as horizontal the ends would lineup and if it needed a little of trimming it would be done at the elevator horn,am I wrong ?
It was such a headache fitting the cap on to the vertical that I want to avoid it if possible .
Thanks
Ben

Was it a pain because it was hard to stuff the tip around the aluminum rib at the tip? To solve this problem, I made my own tip ribs that were about 1/8" smaller all around.

Yes ? Also after pushing it in I couldn't get it out for final trimming and had to drill out several rivets.

Would you be able to line up the trailing edge of the tips with out the elevator installed?
