Manual parking brake

Just installed a parking brake in mySonex for the stock drum brakes. Saw Jeremy using it in the Turbo video. Took a picture of it when I was at Airventure. Cost me a little more than I wanted to spend --.58 cents. What a great idea. I can now get rid of my orange strap with a slip knot that barely held the brakes at idle. This holds me through my run-up easily. Gotta love experimental aircraft.

I noticed that comment in the video as well. Can you post the photo that you took of it?

So.. is it just a clip or angle piece attached to the flap lever?

I've been thinking about something similar

You could email me the pic and I'll post it? (Promise) aj_richo at yahoo.com.au

Ken kindly forwarded some pics of the park brake detail, as fitted to the factory Turbo and Ken's installation.
Super simple and easy to implement!

As the photos would take up a lot of room in your browser, I have organised them into a web page here http://sonexaus.wikispaces.com/SImple+Park+Brake

( Ok I shamelessly added them to a Tips and Tricks area of the Aussie builders website, sonexaus.wikispaces.com)

enjoy!

Maybe someone has already posted this but to save the weight, complexity, and hindrance of the screw and spacer etc... I simply move the flaps out of the fully retracted position, then pull the parking brake handle back and put it into the "0 degree" flap slot. Works like a charm, no added weight or complexity, and will hold the plane to 2300 rpm if the cable is adjusted properly.

That's very similar to the way Tony Spicer did his except his went into the 10ยบ flap slot. The advantage, besides all the positives you've already mentioned, is that you can fully lower the flaps for exiting while the parking brake is still engaged.

I have the Tracy O'Brien hydraulics and use the stick mounted lever/master cylinder. I presently use a piece of velcro to hold the handle for a temporary parking brake but if anyone else has a better idea ... I'm all ears.

I think the flap slot idea is ok if you have arms long enough to reach the brake handle in its relaxed fully forward position.. whilst strapped in
having shorter arms might have led to a different solution.. ?
Just saying..
