Looking for a Canopy

I am at the point where I am fitting my canopy. I spent most of Sunday fitting and sanding it and when I started to drill the holes the canopy cracked in a high stress area. I have had the canopy bundled up in my attic for several years, its a 2005 vintage and I am assuming the temperature cycles did not help in the attic. Anyway with that out the way I thought I would post before ordering from Sonex.

Glad to hear you are making progress, Peter. I was hoping that your canopy would have "cured" over time and thus more flexible. Oh, well..sorry...

That's unfortunate. However, on the bright side, the new canopy material is much more rubbery and easier to work with. And you will find trimming your second one is a snap since you already learned how to do it.
If there are several builders in your area, consider just buying two and have Sonex ship them in the same box. Then let everyone know you have a spare.

So you are finishing a second sonex? Put us to shame.
I saw your lovely bird flying back into raleigh from the comfort of my deck a few weeks back. Very distinct engine note... easily to spot!

Thank for all the replies and compliments. As I am not the original of the kit, Sonex's policy is to charge full price.
So $320 for the canopy and $190 for shipping.
Turns out to have been an expensive Sunday afternoon.
I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and stop whining

Check out Todd's canopies. I have not seen any reports of these cracking. My Sonex canopy cracked even though bonded and not bolted in place (no holes), my Todd's is still crack free. Difference is sides match the straight sides of fuselage and thus are not under stress when installed. Two options from Todd. Full canopy that includes windshield and the "canopy", or back half "canopy" only. I kept the Sonex Lexan windshield for its better impact resistance, and because it is cheap to replace with flat Lexan from any local source, and replaced only the "canopy" portion.
