Words of advice:

Transition training if at all possible or ride with someone who has one. I had done tailwheel training in a super decathlon and performance wise they feel a little similar if you have a jab, just a lot better behaved. I did transition training with Joe up at Sonex. It made first flight a non event. If you haven't been in the plane, go up with someone. Doesn't matter what you flew before.
Get to understand the engine, carb, leaning and the all that. Jab is a great engine. Aerocarb is a good carb- it is very simple and unique in its operation. But be fully checked out on that. Keep the CHTs where they need to be for example - good advice for any airplane. Look after you engine, monitor the data from it. The Jabiru is intolerant of people who are ignorant of it.
It is a wonderful, wonderful little airplane. Ours is treated like a family pet.

SO: Transition training or fly with someone who has one. Schedule or otherwise, do it. Don't make me come over there.

A friend just bought a completed Waiex from Colorado and had it shipped to Massachusetts. He weighed the option of traveling out there with a trailer (or renting one-way) and back, and came to the conclusion that an airplane shipper could do it for roughly the same cost, but of course less hassle. I sent along the Sonex wing installation instructions so they guy would know what he was looking for. The plane arrived a couple of weeks ago and my friend was very happy with the shipper. If you have any interest in looking into that option, I can ask for the shipper's contact info.

Thanks for the advise guys. Hopefully I can alleviate some of your concerns when I say that I'm pretty well educated on the aircraft and this isn't an impulse buy. Sonex has been on top of my short list for over a decade. I've had an interest in them since I first saw one at sun-n-fun when they used to still display there. I lurked on the Yahoo group for years. I'm well aware of the recent and not-so-recent accident history of the type. For the longest time, I considered buying a kit and building my own. I will get some dual at minimum and intend on thoroughly going over the plane before I ever try to fly it.

Got it home Sunday...

Arrived late Thursday and started to remove the wings.

Wings off.

Loading up.

Insert several hundred miles of borderline panic, cursing of rough roads, traffic, and stupid drivers. Then...

Snuggled up in her new home.

No damage noted and a huge sigh of relief. Now the fun begins.

Splash some more yellow on that plane and it would look righteous.

Great job getting the new bird home safely! I'm sure it was a big relief to check things over and find you made the trip without issues. Hopefully you can get the wings back on asap and be ready to go. Is the airplane still in time for the Condition inspection? Hopefully you can start flying soon!

Congrats on the trip! Keep us up to speed on how things go!
