Lift Reserve Indicator

Postby Darick » Mon Jan 06, 2014 1:32 pm

I'm strongly considering a lift reserve indicator from Value Engineering. It's basically a pressure differential gage with an appropriate face and an outside probe. It appears to be a very economical set-up, especially when compared to other similar products. Would anybody using this particular model, recommend the plastic or aluminum probe?
Thanks for your input.

Do you have a link? I tried a quick search for value engineering and didn't come up with anything. I plan on replacing a backup airspeed indicator I have in my panel with a LRI or AOA indicator after I do a number of flights in the plane and am comfortable that the primary airspeed indicator is working and accurate. If you haven't seen it already take a look at Jeff Schutz website. He has some details on building your own LRI in there. If you want to go analog the gage is only about $30 and the probe is pretty simple to make. I never understood why some companies are selling the electronic gages for $1000+. I have a friend helping me put one together with a $15 pressure differntial sensor hooked to an arduino.

I'm not sure how I ever got to this site. The gentleman's name is Kelly and you can email him at Kelly@meiste.com. I could probably make up my own with some trial and error engineering, but I'd rather not re-invent something already available for what I think is a reasonable price.

Dale Williams likes his. You can see it work here: http://youtu.be/WjA7JDJVKeQ

Here is an article on building it: http://sonexfoundation.com/uploads/Culv ... icator.pdf

I purchased and installed this since my MGL xTremes don't support AOA.

$450.
the website is pretty primitive but the product is top notch.
I now use it exclusively for my approaches.

This builder installed the same system:

There are quite detailed pictures on his website of the installation.

Yep, ditto... His website is nothing much to brag about, so I wrote him in the blind and he responded within an hour or so – seemed like a good guy, although I’m only basing that on exchange of emails. Mine hasn’t yet arrived (only ordered about a week ago), but shot a few emails back and forth (choice of aluminum or nylon probe – I went with aluminum, but I think he makes these to order), so we’ll see…
