Does anybody have experience in cad and can fill in the holes on these 3d printings.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2508987

The item is too fat nd short for my lights but I figured out how to change the dimensions to fit the lights but have to epoxy the holes and I’d rather start with a solid piece of plastic than epoxy all the holes and drill through the epoxy.

Thanks

Stl files are just the solid body so they don’t have a lot of editing capability. Filling in holes is possible but if you need to change the shape you’re better of starting from scratch. What lights are you using?

The original post is me with the pic. Lights are unknown, I can’t find the original builders receipt for the lights. I know I can adjust the stl size and my lights fit they are longer and narrower than the files attached, the holes just don’t match. The pulsar are the closest I can find that could fit.

I emailed Kevin and asked him to check out your post here. Kevin designed those mounts.

I'm glad people dig those 3d printed mounts (I designed them and uploaded the STLs to thingiverse). You can also use the free webcad onshape app to customize them for different light designs.

I am going to elect to use the Aveo Engineering PowerBurst NG lights for my project: https://www.aveoengineering.com/lsa-exp ... g-daylite/

When looking at mounting solutions, my first thought was to also edit the STL files floating around for the Aeroled and Whelen lights but ran into some issues with modifying the models. I ultimately am going to go with these universal mounts from Gauge Pods: https://gaugepods.com/products/sonex-an ... s-l-r-pair

The mounting pads are blank and are a great size for the Aveo lights.

Here's the source onshape file for those 3d printable mounts. You can make a (free) onshape account and then click copy and edit to tweak as you might desire:

Kevinh the designs are awesome and will explore the link you provided. Just so you know i could edit the files size but making the file longer and narrower elongates the holes which is why i will explore removing them and trying again.

Bager830...i believe the lights provided in the link are mine and the gaugepods will work. I bought a pair but they are not my favorite solution and i opted to not use them. Yes a blank slate but they almost seem like something that needs to fiber glassed to the wing or add a lot more holes than i am comfortable doing in ensure they are secure on the wingtip.

Here's a photo of my wingtip using the items you refer to in your message. The Aveo strobes are the ones they market for gliders.........no red, green or white, only strobes. I didn't want to be tempted to fly a single engine experimental aircraft at night.

Thank you! I was able to export it to a 'step' file and import to my favorite CAD program (Shapr3D). Now, to get a foot print of my lights. Properly mounting these things have been on my wannado-list for a long time, sometimes getting a little push helps to get me moving.
