AirVenture 2023 grounds update- ground is hard as a rock

Postby jowens » Mon Jul 10, 2023 1:37 pm

I spoke with an Airventure volunteer that just returned from a work party. The grass is beyond brown and the ground is so hard it is cracking. We all hope for rain very soon will provide some relief. A few things to consider:
-It may be a real challenge to pound in tent stakes or set airplane tie down anchors
-Rain water during the show is likely to puddle or run rather than settle into the hard ground.

Bryan, no my flying friend volunteers at AirVenture gave the grounds update. I'll be camping at Wayne's the week of AirVenture.

I can verify the Oshkosh turf is EXTREMELY dry. I have only mowed my lawn three times this year and two of those were to merely knock down the weeds (which are always hardy!) to the same hight as the lawn. We are WAY BEHIND on rainfall here. The good news is that temps this summer have been very tolerable here, but then..AV week always warms up and we’ll likely get our needed rain then!
