Here is a $5 more or less noise cancelling electret element. This is a lot for a one $ ECM but I might try it for my DIY headset. It should give 5-10db of noise reduction.

I added about 4" to my exhaust pipes and noticed a big drop in cockpit noise but the best solution so far is the Bose A20 headset I received for Christmas.
