What is the need to pre-heat. I start my engine and let it warm up on its own. I am in Coastal NC and have never had a problem with doing it, or a repercussion from not doing it.

I don't mind flying in the cold weather. It's good air! I'm in Massachusetts, and it gets a might cold up here in the winter. Mine is tied down outside. Often the engine can be cold soaked for days or weeks of below freezing temps, or below zero temps. It's not a big, tough iron engine like in a modern car. So I'm choosing to minimize potential excess wear by pre-heating.
