Need 2.0 areovee wrist pin

Postby grevaly » Sat Oct 18, 2014 11:51 am

Hello, I am ready to do the cowling on #1242 and am building an areovee 2.0 that I purchased second owner. The kit
was still unassembled an in original packing. the assembly has been going well icluding the dreaded prop hub. Crankcase
closed, I took the piston set out of the box and discovered that one piston assy was missing the wrist pin! It was a why do these
things always happen to me moment. Since I knew sonex would probably not help since I was second generation owner, I
talked to MAHLE and MAHLE aftermarket and for some reason they could not recognize the #'s off the data tag on the mahle
box so they cold not identify the part I required. I have searched around and called a few places and was having no luck.
I called Kerry and told him my problem and graciously went and scrounged around but was not able to dig up a single pin.
I would have to by a complete piston jug assy.
I am wondering if anyone might have spare wrist pin from switching cylinders or a rebuid or may have an idea where
to go to get one. The pin is .888 dia and 2.930 length mahle. Thanks.

Hi Mark,

I would think that Sonex would help ... at least with giving you some source information. I believe the 2.0 Aerovee was using parts from CB Performance. They do show wrist pin sets for $35.00 that they say
are manufactured to replace wrist pins in Mahle Pistons 88mm thru 94mm.

Here's a link:

http://www.cbperformance.com/ProductDet ... tCode=1213

They don't give the sizes so a call or email may be in order.

Dunno if this helps,

Do I understand you gave those measurments to Mahle and they did not know their own parts? Do you have any offroad dunebuggy type shops in your area? VW motors are very common in buggys. As a side note, I see that CB says their pins are " lightweight " so if you do use them be sure to use all four to keep the weights equal.

I have found some pins that I might buy in sets but I may be rebalancing all pistons... trying to get a mahle part first
When I called mahle and they could not match numbers they claimed stuff from '06 was old and suppliers change, i was at work and did not have the measurements when I called the first time, I might try them again monday. Im kinda busy tonite we are in St Paul
to see "A Prarie Home Companion". In the morning search CB and some other sites a bit.
Thanks
