I am looking for ideas on where to go for a day trip near Atlanta within a few hours flight. I am renting and can't land on a turf or dirt strip. Any place that has an interesting town or park to explore.

Check out the travel post on VansAirForce.net by Scott Chastain. He is flying his RV-8 around the country for 40 days and was in the Southeastern part. Great writer and interesting stories.

I was gonna say Peachstate aerodrome till you said no turf.
Staggerwing museum in Tullahoma (KTHA) perhaps? Bout an hour flight.
If you want some beach and sunshine and a quaint town to walk around in. Perhaps Cedar Key (KCDK) or Saint Simons Island (KSSI)?
Or ya can buzz down to Griffin (6A2) Saturday. I'm gonna be out there cleaning up the hangar.

Dayton has a bunch of great things to check out. There's the Air Force Museum. Carillon Park is pretty awesome and is where the original Wright Flyer is on display. I73 - Moraine Airpark has a car that I think is free to use during the day too.
