I just returned from an outstanding trip from Atlanta to Oshkosh via New England. In my quest to touch down in all of the lower 48 States, I thought it best to knock out all of the New England states at one time. Needless to say, when covering so many miles and dropping into so many places that cool memories are going to happen.

The highlights...
-flying down the Hudson Corridor with a circle around the Statue of Liberty
-circling Mount Washington in New Hampshire
-speaking with Gene Soucy at a small Ohio airport and discussing the best route to take his P-51 through the weather that I had just been through
-performing a go-around at Oshkosh because of the mass arrival of Cubs...I read about the arrival for two months and always figured that I would right in the middle of them...
-attending the Sonex Open House and Monday Night Party
-camping with fellow Waiex builder/flyer Mike Farley and his family in "Homebuilt Camping"
-flying in the "Homebuilt Review" at Oshkosh...basically participating in the airshow!
-speaking with dozens of Sonex builders about their airplane and mine
-meeting an old college friend in the DC area
-flying past the skylines of New York City, Cleveland, and Chicago
-enjoying incredible scenery in places like the Lake at Laconia, NH, the Adirondack Mountains and, coastal Maine
-experiencing no mechanical problems except for a failed fuel cap just two stops from home

The route...

Monroe, GA
Morganton, NC
Blacksburg, VA
Martinsburg, WV
Frederick, MD
Middletown, DE
Trenton, NJ
Danbury, CT
Pawtucket, RI
Fitchburg, MA
Laconia, NH
Portland, ME
Montpelier, VT
Fulton, NY
Niagara Falls, NY
Erie, PA
Fremont, OH
Flint, MI
Michigan City, IN
Green Bay, WI
Oshkosh, WI
Hartford, WI
Hendricks CO (Indianapolis), IN
Rockwood, TN
Monroe, GA

The numbers...
8 days
17 states
3343 statute miles
25.9 flight hours
129.1 average mph
138.4 gallons fuel used
24.14 miles per gallon
5.34 gallons per hour

Great pics Kip!! I'm so glad your trip worked out so well! Thanks for hanging out...my family and I had a blast!!

For those of you who didn't see Kip, he did an outstanding job flying his Waiex on Tuesdays Homebuilt Review. It was great seeing him (and Bob Mika on Thursday) fly and represent Sonex Aircraft.

What a trip...it was either 120 degrees or storming, but still a great show.

Great meeting everyone

In a relatively short time Frank, you will be the one flying and the next generation of builders will be writing the same thing to you... :)

Kipp, it was great talking to you at OSH. Learned a lot of tricks to do to my Waiex. Hope to join you next year flying my plane there.

Looking forward to another YX there. At some fly-ins, we're almost 50/50 with the straight tails... ;)
