Big Muddy Air Race 2015

Postby gammaxy » Mon Jun 08, 2015 11:36 am

My son and I flew our Sonex at an average speed of 135mph in the Big Muddy Air Race. We were the only competitors in the Sportsman class, so naturally we won!

Congratulations on your flight to victory Chris! 135 average is pretty good! Way to go! Your co-pilot is a real trooper! I enjoyed watching the news coverage provided in your link.

Thanks for sharing Chris. Nathan's interview was great; especially the story about his aerobatic flying at the 1:00 mark.

Haha.... yeah, that was pretty funny. The stick is so far away that he can't reach it very well--when he does get a grip on it, he tends to pull it back too far in an attempt to get a better grip.

When we use a booster seat, we are able to position him better and he does a pretty good job--almost like a voice-activated autopilot.

Very cool news story! When my kids were that small they didn't want to touch the controls. When I was Nathan's age my dad had me in the front of a 172, and my older siblings in the back. I could barely reach the yoke. I did the same thing as Nathan, and my first hammerhead entry got my brother and sister screaming and apologizing to each other for all the bad things they had done. I still remember that moment of discovery that the yoke pulls back.
