I am almost ready to place my order for Sonex with tri gear and double stick.
Not sure about the engine yet but leaning toward Jabru 3300 . I wish that the Sonex wouldn't make you decide on the engine this early.
I am almost finished building my workshop,using the garage wasn't a option.
Would I have any problem with 3300 on a Tri gear ?

The landing gear (or nose wheel) attach to the engine mount. The engine mount is also different depending on the engine type. You can build the wings, tail, and most of the rest of the fuselage before deciding on landing gear configuration or engine type if you don't buy the "Landing Gear and Engine Configuration Subkits" until you are ready.

You probably lose some money by paying freight shipping multiple times and any other discount Sonex might give you for buying everything at the same time, though.

I spent about 3.5 years building mine (tail kit from another builder, scratch-built fuselage, and kit built wings) and didn't buy the engine mount until year 2 or 3.

Others with 3300 tri-gears will probably chime in, but there is no problem with that or any of the other configurations that I'm aware of.

You will save some money by purchasing the whole kit including engine mount and landing gear, but I would hold off on engine selection as long as possible. Many good options in the pipe line, including Camit's 3300 which is just now coming to market, and likely others by the time you are ready.

I'm not going to order the engine ,but in order to save money I have to let them know what engine and and the engine mount comes as part of the kit .
I'm new to all this and maybe misunderstanding the whole thing .

Here is an idea- most people who change their minds will want to upgrade to a Jabiru, not downgrade to a VW. You could go Jab and if you decide Aerovee I bet you could find a trade.

Sonex will do an exchange of parts,for change in configuration. $50 flat fee, plus you pay for shipping both ways, and any difference in the cost for the configuration (I.e. Conventional gear to tri-gear is an up charge) - to the original owner of the kit and assuming the parts are still new and not installed.

You are right I spoke to Mark and he confirmed what you said . There is a little catch though it's only good for the first owner.
So I am a lot poorer this morning. Thank you all very much for replies.
